The Amplius performance cycle

Our performance cycle is a reinforcing process. Each stage supports the next to help colleagues grow, perform and succeed.

Regular conversations, performance reviews, and development planning work together to create an ongoing approach to performance and growth rather than a series of standalone activities.

Performance at Amplius is assessed based on both what is achieved and how it is achieved. Managers should consider delivery against agreed goals alongside demonstration of the Amplius Values and expected behaviours when discussing performance, development, and contribution.

 Goal setting

Setting clear, stretching goals aligned to team priorities and the Amplius Corporate Plan.

 Annual

>

 One-to-one meetings

Regular, meaningful conversations focused on progress, wellbeing, support and removing barriers to success.

 Every four-to-six weeks

>

 Personal Development Plan (PDP)

Building skills, confidence and capability to support current future success.

 Annual

>

 Performance review

Reflecting on achievements, recognising contribution and identifying opportunities for growth.

 Quarterly

>

Although the framework includes annual and quarterly milestones, performance management should not be viewed as a sequence of isolated activities. Managers and colleagues are expected to have regular performance conversations throughout the year, using the framework flexibly to reflect business priorities, colleague development and changing organisational needs

Recording performance management activity

All performance management activity must be recorded within Cascade and should not be maintained on alternative systems or local records, including spreadsheets, OneNote, Word documents, or other manager-held records.

This replaces all previous and legacy approaches used across Amplius for recording performance discussions, development activity, and review outcomes.

Managers must use Cascade as the single system of record for performance management activity. This includes:

  • Goal setting
  • 1:1 meetings
  • Personal Development Plans (PDPs)
  • Quarterly performance reviews
  • Probation reviews
  • Salary progression development reviews

Cascade provides the organisational record of performance, development and progress discussions, supports consistency across Amplius, and enables effective reporting, oversight, and workforce planning.

Integrating performance conversations

The performance management framework is designed to support continuous performance conversations rather than a series of separate meetings.

Managers should use regular one-to-one meetings as the primary opportunity to discuss performance, goals, development and wellbeing. Where appropriate, additional performance management activities may be incorporated into the same meeting.

For example, a scheduled one-to-one meeting may also include:

  • reviewing or updating performance goals
  • discussing progress against a Personal Development Plan (PDP)
  • completing a quarterly performance review
  • reviewing progress against a salary progression development review, or
  • holding a formal probation review.

Combining these discussions helps create a more meaningful conversation, avoids unnecessary meetings and ensures performance management remains an ongoing, integrated process rather than a collection of separate activities.

Managers should ensure that each activity is still recorded within Cascade using the relevant workflow.
