CASCADE HR

Goal setting

Goal setting provides clarity on expectations and helps colleagues understand how their role contributes to team priorities, organisational objectives and positive outcomes for customers, communities, and Amplius.

Effective goals should:

  • Be aligned to team priorities and organisational objectives.
  • Focus on outcomes and measurable achievements.
  • Be meaningful and achievable.
  • Clearly define what success looks like.
  • Support performance, development, and accountability.

Managers should typically agree between three and five core goals with each colleague. These should represent the key priorities and outcomes expected throughout the performance year.

Goals should not remain static. Regular one-to-one meetings provide an opportunity to review progress, celebrate achievements, and update goals where priorities change.

In addition to core goals, managers may agree shorter-term priorities throughout the year to support changing business needs, projects, operational demands, or emerging priorities. These should complement existing goals rather than replace them and help ensure colleagues remain focused on the most key areas of work.

All goals should be recorded within Cascade and reviewed regularly through one-to-one meetings.
